Porcelin and blood red returns

Some things annoy me. Some more than others. I read with increasing horror the media release on the logo for the 2012 Olympics in Lahndahn, innit.

“London 2012 will be Everyone’s Games, everyone’s 2012.” translates: Other taxpayers around the country will get to foot the ever-increasing bill.

The new emblem is dynamic, modern and flexible reflecting a brand savvy world where people, especially young people, no longer relate to static logos but respond to a dynamic brand that works with new technology and across traditional and new media networks. translates: Hey, you, The Kids, we understand!

“We want London 2012 not just to be about elite sporting success” translates: No need to get your hopes up, TeamGB, youse will still suck then.

“This is not just a marketing logo, but a symbol that will become familiar, instantly recognisable and associated with our Games in so many ways during the next five years.”. That is not A Good Thing.

I’m sorry, that logo sucks. Truly, it does. Like a swastika designed by a five-year old on crack. Certainly the worst logo I have seen in a long, long time. I read it is supposed to look like ‘2012’. Maybe to the doped-up coke-fuelled nu-meeja whores it does. It is Grim Up North London.

And Britain wonders why it isn’t great anymore. Second-rate country with its thrid-rate sheeple and fourth-rate government. Praise given because, you know, even logo designers shouldn’t feel like they have failed. Or a disasterous quango feel like it has wasted money. I despise subsidy, I despise the collectivist knee-jerks who run this country into the ground. Luckily I live in a place apart, but the tentacles reach even here. I should be going to see Taking Liberties, as should everyone, but alas am busy. I shall catch it in the next showing.

Lastly, don’t forget to watch the brand video, with all its late-80s Chart Show graphics, and Tony Hart production values. I wept.

glad it’s not just me! That logo is a disaster. I feel ashamed of paying my taxes …

  2. Shame isn’t the only emotion I feel when paying taxes…

But yes. How did they look at that logo and think ‘Oh, that rocks. Let us use that’?

  3. A 2012 logo discussion wouldn’t be complete without observing that the official one looks like somebody getting a BJ, and linking to this

  4. l’m still holding out hopes that someone will find the voting is rigged before too much damage is done so we can laugh while france cripples itself, but not very strong hopes. The outlook is bleak, especially when you think how much someone was paid to ‘design’ that ‘logo’ when all they did was stick together randomly ripped paper.

    lets off steam
